Adult Learn to Sail Dinghy 2024

CBYC is proud to have the return of Adult Learn to Sail (LTS) Dinghy program for 2024. The course follows the Sail Canada CANSail Dinghy program, focusing on CANSail 1 & 2.*

CANSail 1 is beginner level – no experience required.  Using our Topper Topaz 14′ Dinghies, our instructors take each student through the basics of sailing, including rigging a boat, points of sail, rules of the water and general sailing safety. CANSail 2 completes basic double-handed skills and knowledge, with more emphasis on skippering the boat and trimming the sails to maximize speed and control.

*Adults interested in CANSail 3&4 should contact us to inquire about private or semi-private lessons.

Adult LTS Dinghy Program – Summer 2024

Dates

Weeknight adult dinghy courses are planned for July and August. The classes will be held on Monday and Thursday evenings from 5pm – 9pm for three consecutive weeks for a total of 6 evening classes. A minimum of 5 registrants per session are required in order to run the course.

The following sessions are currently open for registration:

Session 1:

  • Week 1: July 15 & 18
  • Week 2: July 22 & 25
  • Week 3: July 29 & Aug 1

Session 2:

  • Week 1: Aug 5 & 8
  • Week 2: Aug 12 & 15
  • Week 3 Aug 19 & 22

*Please note: While it is usually possible to complete both level 1 and 2 in one session, students must successfully demonstrate all of the required skills prior to completing a level. Weather and wind conditions may limit the amount of on water time available to demonstrate the prescribed skills and are beyond the control of the sailing school.

Also note: Although all students will wear personal flotation devices (PFD) or life jackets whenever on the water, good swimming ability and upper body strength is required, as part of the program involves capsizing the boat and learning how to right it and reboard it.

COVID 19 Notice: All planned programming and dates for 2024 are subject to change without notice in accordance with public health requirements in effect.

COVID – 19 Safety

The health and safety of all our sailors, instructors, staff, volunteers and club members is the top priority of our organization. We ask that you not attend lessons if you are unwell or have tested positive for COVID-19.

We will continue to follow official guidelines and recommendations from the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Province of Ontario, KFL&A Public Health and Sail Canada, as well as any COVID safety protocols in effect for Collins Bay Marina.
